Dr. C. M. Gibson reviews AMIHOT II and the Northern Trial
Dr. Gibson discusses the findings of AMIHOT II and the Northern Trial, presented in TCT
2007. The AMIHOT II is a prospective trial assessing the effect of supersaturated oxygen
therapy after PCI in anterior MI patients. The results indicated no reduction in infarct
size in anterior MI with supersaturated oxygen therapy. The Northern trial evaluated
the intermyocardial administration of vascular endothelial growth factor for patients with
refractory unstable angina. The results showed no improvement in outcomes for these
patients.
