Dr. Jeffrey Popma and Dr. Raimund Erbel discuss the PROGRESS-AMS study |
Dr. Jeffrey Popma and Dr. Raimund Erbel discuss the PROGRESS-AMS study. The PROGRESS-AMS study evaluates the benefits of a temporary bioadsorbable scaffolding mechanism inside the coronary arteries (temporary stenting). The reasons for using magnesium as the stent material are explained. The 12 month results of the trial are discussed (endpoints discussed include: death, QWMI, TVR, late stent thrombosis). IVUS and angiography were used to examine the results of stenting. Dr. Erbel outlines the safety issues associated with the magnesium stent as it is absorbed. Dr. Erbel assesses what the future holds for the bioadsorbable stent studied in the PROGRESS-AMS trial, specifically whether it should be used as a BMS or DES.
