SCARR Registry of DES vs Bare Metal Stents presented at ESC 2007 |
Dr. Mike Gibson reports live from ESC 2007 that the Swedish Coronary Angiography / Angioplasty Registry (SCARR) of 35,000 patients showed no difference in mortality for drug-eluting stents (DES) versus bare metal stents (BMS) now at four-years of follow-up. In fact, DES were associated with a lower rate of death and myocardial infarction (MI) at six months, but this trend reversed between six months and four years, resulting in a neutral outcome at four years. This information is in contrast to last year's results from the same registry that showed a higher mortality among DES patients.
